Regardless of Age, Exercise is Beneficial

April 05, 2019 by Quinn A

Research has shown over and over again that physical exercise is beneficial to older adults regardless of their age and health limitations.  If you are an older adult who is already physically active, you may be helping to “prevent problems like a lower maximum heart rate, reduced muscle mass, bone loss, stiffened tendons and ligaments, and some joint or nerve problems.”  Experts recommend at least 30 minutes of physical activity daily or 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week.

If you are an older adult with some health limitations, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the American Heart Association offer some useful tips for safely benefiting from physical activity.  Just remember, before you start any new exercise regimen, consult with your health care provider.  Also while you may not be able to attain the recommended 150 minutes a week, experts say you should try to engage in as much physical activity as you can.

Adjust the intensity of your physical activity to your fitness level, and find activities you can do all year round and enjoy.  Walking is considered to be a good exercise for older adults as it can easily be adjusted to one’s fitness level by adjusting the length of the walk and pace.  Also remember to wear comfortable clothing as well as properly fitting footwear.  Walking with someone makes good sense for safety reasons and provides companionship.

For seniors at risk of falling, it is important to do exercises to improve your balance.  Most of the recommended exercises are easy-to-do at home and can be done daily.  You will want to start any new activity slowly and increase your progress gradually.  Another thing to remember is to drink plenty of water throughout the day and during your exercise activity.  Keep in mind that as we age our thirst sensation diminishes, and by the time you feel thirsty, you may already be partially dehydrated.

At MorningStar at Jordan Creek, we provide area seniors carefree retirement years with a lifestyle of comfort, wellness and community.  Beautifully designed to meet our residents’ every need, MorningStar offers a range of wellness programs and activities to engage and support physical, intellectual, social and spiritual connection.  If you are looking for exceptional senior living, Des Moines area MorningStar at Jordan Creek may be your answer.

Please contact your healthcare provider before you start, change, or stop any type of physical activity or exercise.

The unique mission statement of MorningStar at Jordan Creek, “to honor, to serve, to invest,” sets us apart from other senior living communities. Our foundation is built upon honoring God, valuing all seniors, and investing in staff with a felt calling to serve. Dedicated to creating a real home for residents within a beautiful setting, we encourage you to see for yourself the finest senior living Des Moines has to offer.

What Should You Say to Someone Who is Grieving?

April 05, 2019 by Quinn A

We all feel helpless when someone we care about is going through a tough time.  It is difficult for a person to experience the loss of someone they love and as a friend or family member; it is hard to watch.  There are some things you can do to help a person with the grieving process.

It is important to let the person know that you care about them and want to help out in any way possible.  Do not let your discomfort with the situation allow you to shy away from the situation.  The best thing you can do is to be supportive.  Be prepared to listen (avoid giving advice) and allow the bereaved person to talk or just sit quietly.  Let them know you hear and acknowledge their pain without minimalizing their loss.

Here are some suggestions to use as a guide when trying to comfort someone who is experiencing a loss:

Acknowledge the situation. Example: "I heard that your_____ died." Use the word "died" That will show that you are more open to talk about how the person really feels.

Express your concern. Example: "I'm sorry to hear that this happened to you."

Be genuine in your communication and don't hide your feelings. Example: "I’m not sure what to say, but I want you to know I care."

Offer your support. Example: "Tell me what I can do for you."

Ask how he or she feels, and don't assume you know how the bereaved person feels on any given day.

Just keep in mind that there is no right or wrong way to grieve, nor is there a set time table.  Everyone grieves in their own way, but do keep in mind that there are some warning signs that a person is not adjusting to their new situation.  The loss of the ability to function in their day-to-day life, extreme feelings of anger or guilt, withdrawing, and abuse of alcohol or drugs may be a signal that they need professional help.

MorningStar Assisted Living and Memory Care at Mountain Shadows represents the best in Colorado Springs senior living with a distinct mission statement - “to honor, to serve, to invest.”  Our foundation is built on honoring God, valuing all seniors and selecting staff with a felt calling to serve.  We are dedicated to providing a true home for residents amidst a beautiful, serene setting and invite you to visit to our exceptional community.

Helping Your Parents with Paperwork

April 01, 2019 by Quinn A

Many adult children who live a distance away from elderly parents often feel there is not much they can do to help with day-to-day care.  However, one of the things experts suggest that can be done long-distance is to help mom or dad get their paperwork organized.

Initially the job requires more time and energy, but once you have everything gathered together, you will just need to make sure to keep it updated.  In fact, having all of your parents’ pertinent information up-to-date and in one place, will make caregiving long-distance much easier as it allows you to more quickly make decisions and respond to a crisis.

Paperwork should include maintaining and managing current information about your parent’s health and medical care including the type of medications and the dosage they are taking.  Other important information includes details regarding sources of income and assets, i.e. bank accounts, pensions, life insurances, IRAs, 401 (k)s and other investments, their home and monthly liabilities.

To do long-distance, it may be easier to schedule a visit or two to begin the process.  Also, if you do not already know, ask mom or dad if they have a will, and if so, make sure it is in order.  Furthermore, discuss with them the benefits of drawing up a durable power of attorney, which legally gives the person named on the document the right to handle their financial decisions if the need should arise.

Sometimes older adults can be protective of their financial and personal information.  You will need them to understand that you are not trying to invade their privacy or take over their personal lives but rather want to be prepared to assist in the case of an emergency.

If you are looking for the best senior living Des Moines and the surrounding area has to offer, we encourage you to take a look at MorningStar at Jordan Creek.  Our assisted living and memory care community is ready to care for your elderly parent’s physical, intellectual, spiritual and social needs.  Amenities and services include wellness programs and activities, three tasty, daily meals prepared by our Executive Chef, 24/7 care and more.  We also have a compassionate team that feels privileged to serve seniors.  Contact us to set up a tour of our beautiful community.

Age-related Hearing Loss is a Common Condition

April 01, 2019 by Quinn A

One of the most common conditions affecting elderly adults is hearing loss, known as presbycusis, and gradually occurs to nearly everyone.  Statistics indicate that one-third of all Americans between the ages of 65 to 74 have some hearing loss, and almost half of seniors older than 75 have difficulty hearing.

Presbycusis typically affects both ears equally and many seniors are unaware of the fact that they have experienced hearing loss as it happens so gradually.  One primary reason for elderly hearing loss is the cumulative effect that results from the deterioration of the cochlea or other parts of the inner ear or auditory nerves.

In some cases, health conditions more common among the elderly such as high blood pressure and diabetes can adversely affect hearing.  Furthermore, certain medications including some kinds of chemotherapy drugs also cause hearing loss.

Another cause of hearing loss affecting individuals of any age is long-term exposure to loud noise.  In this situation, the sensory hair cells in the ear that allow us to hear are damaged, and do no grow back.  It is one of the most common occupational hazards and the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) reports that 10 million Americans suffer from irreversible hearing damage due to noise.

NIDCD also states that hearing problems are serious and it is important to have your hearing tested by a doctor if you are experiencing problems.  Start with your primary care physician as he/she can refer you to a specialist.  Your care may include seeing an otolaryngologist who specializes in diagnosing and treating diseases of the ear, nose, throat, and neck.  After consultation and testing by an otolaryngologist, you may be referred to an audiologist.  They specialize in identifying and measuring the type and degree of hearing loss.  Finally they, or a hearing aid specialist, may fit you for a hearing aid if it is determined you need one.

Does Mom or Dad Need More Help?

March 27, 2019 by Quinn A

If your elderly parent lives alone, you may have wondered if they have an adequate support system to ensure their safety and comfort.  We encourage you to read some advice from the experts to determine if your parent needs more help to not just survive but to thrive!

Some of the things to find out are if they have had any recent falls or driving mishaps.  Do you have any reason to suspect they may be endangering their safety by forgetting to turn off the stove or other appliances?  Do you see signs that they are having difficulty bathing and attending to personal daily care activities?    Does their house look unusually unkempt with dirty dishes lying around and mail stacking up?  Are there signs of spoiled food or an empty refrigerator?

Also consider if your parent has health conditions that are making it more difficult for them to care for themselves.  Poor balance and failing eyesight can increase the likelihood of a fall and not having help close at hand can be dangerous.  In addition, if your parent no longer drives, they may be having a hard time getting out to the grocery store or to doctor appointments as well as becoming too socially isolated.

Assisted living may offer the best option if your parent or spouse needs more personal care than he/she can get (or afford) in the home or in an independent living community, but does not require 24-hour medical care and supervision.  Our MorningStar at Jordan Creek community is dedicated to providing the best assisted living Des Moines and the surrounding area offers, with a lifestyle of comfort, wellness and community.

With 56 spacious suites for assisted living and 29 secure suites devoted to the individualized, care of those with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia, MorningStar at Jordan Creek is designed with all the comforts of home. Please visit our website for more information.

MorningStar at Jordan Creek proudly provides the very best in senior living with our unique mission statement of “to honor, to serve, to invest.” With a foundation built on honoring God, valuing all seniors and selecting staff with a felt calling to serve, we create a true home for residents amid a beautiful setting. Assisted Living Provides Support for Daily Care Activities

March 25, 2019 by Quinn A

Many people mistakenly assume that “assisted living” is just another term for nursing homes.  In fact, nursing homes are intended for people that require long-term, around-the-clock medical care and supervision and should not be confused with assisted living, which provides residents support for daily care activities.  At an assisted living community, you will receive the care you need to live comfortably and safely while still retaining your privacy and as much independence as possible.

Assisted living is ideal for anyone who does not require 24-hour skilled medical care but rather just needs more personal care than they can get at home or at an independent living retirement community.  Meals and transportation are provided, and if needed, residents can get help with activities such as showering, dressing, and etc.  For the family, they rest easy knowing that a trained, caring staff is available to help whenever a loved one needs it.

Many assisted living communities offer the privacy of individual suites, while also providing their residents with the security and safety of 24-hour support and quick access to care.  In addition communities generally provide residents the opportunity to participate in social and recreation activities along with wellness programs.  Residents usually eat their meals in a communal dining room and have housekeeping and laundry services available.

If you would like to see what one of the best assisted living facilities Colorado Springs has to offer, we invite you to consider MorningStar Assisted Living and Memory Care at Mountain Shadows.  Our beautiful community provides various levels of assistance with daily living activities as determined after a thorough assessment with our Wellness Director and in agreement with the senior and their extended family.  For all of our residents, MorningStar’s around-the-clock Care Managers are there to meet needs and to ensure the utmost safety.

The unique mission statement of MorningStar at Mountain Shadows, “to honor, to serve, to invest,” sets us apart from other assisted living facilities Colorado Springs offers. Our foundation is built upon honoring God, valuing all seniors, and investing in staff with a felt calling to serve. Dedicated to creating a real home for residents within a beautiful setting, we encourage you to see for yourself our exceptional community.

Educational Dementia Support Group

March 24, 2019 by Quinn A in Senior Living

MorningStar at Mountain Shadows is pleased to announce that we have started an educational support group for family and friends of loved ones with dementia.  The class will meet at 5:30 PM on the third Monday of each month in our private dining room.

Our support group will be led by Sheryl Schauer, an Alzheimer’s Association Educator for 15 years and a certified instructor of Teepa Snow as well as a daughter of a MorningStar resident.  As an Alzheimer’s Association educator, Sheryl has experience with quality care practices based on a comprehensive review of current evidence, best practice and expert opinion, which is used to help manage behavior and provide person-centered dementia care.

For anyone unfamiliar with Teepa Snow, she is one of the leading educators on dementia and the care that accompanies it, throughout the U.S. and Canada.  Her training teaches practical skills to help caregivers provide better care for those living with dementia.  She is the founder of Positive Approach® to Care, which “emphasizes making use of the skills retained while providing support, and substituting our skill, for what is no longer available.”

We do not require that you RSVP to our educational support group but rather encourage everyone to come join us when you can for what is sure to be an informative evening.  Snacks will be served.

MorningStar at Mountain Shadows also is proud to report that we were honored by the Alzheimer’s Association as the 3rd top fundraiser of all of the care communities in Colorado Springs. Our team raised a whopping $5,034 for the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s, and even exceeded our goal of $5,000.  Congratulations to all who participated for such a good cause.  We are so grateful for the joyful hearts embodied by our residents and team members, and are proud of everything they have done for the Alzheimer’s Association.

MorningStar at Mountain Shadows Offers Companion Living

March 23, 2019 by Quinn A

In addition to MorningStar at Mountain Shadows offering seniors a choice of smartly-designed spacious studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom floor plans, we also allow residents to share living arrangements.  Our Companion Living program is specifically designed for unrelated seniors of the same sex to share a suite.  This arrangement is available to both our assisted living and memory care residents.

What are the benefits?  Actually there are many reasons it may make good sense for you or a family member that is considering senior living. Since we understand that people are designed for relationships, most of us flourish when we are in one.  However, the fact is that many seniors have lost their long-term life partner and are left feeling bereft and isolated.  So besides offering the economic benefit of splitting the monthly rent expense in half, a roommate can help alleviate many of these feelings.

In addition to providing a companion, a roommate can make the transition period for a new in-coming resident much easier.  The seasoned community member can help guide their new companion through all the facets of senior living and make them feel more confident in socializing with the entire community.  Also another often overlooked advantage to companion living is that since roommates inherently look out after one another, they may be the first one to notice a change in the health of their roomie.

To ensure the arrangement works for both parties, MorningStar at Mountain Shadows goes to great lengths to match residents who wish to participate in companion living and pair residents based on similar backgrounds and shared interests.  Furthermore, even when you share the rent with another resident, you are still offered the full scope of MorningStar resort-style amenities including daily meals, activities, scheduled transportation, entertainment and much more.   Please visit our website to learn more about companion living and our beautiful Colorado Springs senior living community.

Why Seniors Fall & Tips to Prevent It from Happening

March 23, 2019 by Quinn A in Senior Living

According to the National Council on Aging (NCOA), one out of every four Americans aged 65 and older falls every year and the majority of these falls occur at home. There are several reasons why seniors are more susceptible to a fall and there are steps you can take to help decrease the likelihood of it happening.

Many elderly adults experience a general overall decline in their physical fitness resulting in reduced muscle strength, decreased bone mass, loss of balance and coordination, and reduced flexibility that make them more susceptible to a fall.  Another common problem shared by many seniors is impaired vision.  This can make it more difficult to detect fall hazards such as steps, thresholds, and obstacles and changes in the ground.

Certain types of medications, especially the side effects, can cause drowsiness, dizziness or low blood pressure, which can all increase the risk of a fall.  Also keep in mind it is not just prescription drugs but over-the-counter medications can contribute to balance problems as well.  Other factors that make seniors more susceptible to falls are chronic diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease and arthritis as well as surgical procedures including hip or knee replacement.

The NIA recommends installing night lights in the hallways and bathrooms and to have a light switch and phone within reach of the bed.  Keep walkways free of clutter and avoid using throw rugs and area carpets.  Use hand rails when going up and down the stairs, and if you have a pet, make sure they are not underfoot.  In the bathroom, install grab bars in the tub and near the toilet, and use non-skid mats, strips, or carpet on all surfaces that may get wet.

At MorningStar at Mountain Shadows, our loving assisted living community makes residents’ safety and wellbeing a priority.  We provide 24-hour care, a licensed nurse on call 24/7, and provide suites equipped with full, handicapped-accessible bathrooms, an emergency call system and more.

At MorningStar at Mountain Shadows, we represent the very best in senior living with a unique mission statement of “to honor, to serve, to invest.”  Our foundation is built on honoring God, valuing all seniors and selecting staff with a felt calling to serve to create a true “home” for our residents.  Located at the foot of the majestic Rockies, we invite you to see firsthand one of the finest assisted living facilities in Colorado Springs.

Learn the Signs and Symptoms of Stroke

March 23, 2019 by Quinn A in Senior Living

More than 140,000 people die each year from a stroke in the United States and it is the third leading cause of death according to The Internet Stroke Center.  In addition they report that approximately 795,000 people suffer from a stroke each year, which means on average, every 40 seconds someone in the United States has a stroke.  Strokes are also the leading cause of serious, long-term disabilities and a stroke can take up to two years or more to recover from.  Statistically almost three-quarters of all strokes are in people over the age of 65.

The National Stroke Association recommends that “FAST” is a simple way to remember and identify the most common symptoms of a stroke.  By having the information you need to quickly identify the signs of a stroke and calling 9-1-1 for help, you can improve a person’s chances for a better recovery.   They also advise that you note the time you first noticed the symptoms as this can determine the course of treatment.

To identify the warning signs of a stroke using FAST includes:

F   FACE: Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop?

A  ARMS: Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?

S  SPEECH: Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase. Is their speech slurred or strange?

T  TIME: If you observe any of these signs, call 9-1-1 immediately.

The experts at the WebMD website advise that if a loved one has suffered from a stroke, you should take the time to educate yourself on their condition and prognosis.  One way to do this is to take advantage of hospital run programs to learn as much as you can about strokes and the rehabilitation process.  Also they caution that you should check with your insurance and Medicare coverage to find out what expenses are covered and what your responsibilities will be.

This post is intended for informational purposes only.  Please contact your health care provider with any questions or concerns you have regarding your health.

Questions to Ask Your Doctor? Prepare Before You Go

March 22, 2019 by Quinn A in Senior Living

How many of us have just left a doctor’s office when we realized we forgot to ask several relevant questions we had been thinking about.  This is why physicians suggest we take the time to prepare for each of our doctor appointments to ensure the best health outcome.

Keep in mind the estimated time spent with the doctor is only about 7 minutes, so you need to be ready to communicate your concerns.  One of the first things to do to save time is create an updated list of all of the medications you are currently taking regardless of which healthcare provider prescribed it.  You can even bring the bottles with you so there are no questions about dosage.  Remember to include any over-the-counter drugs you take.

Next, prepare a list of questions you have starting with the most important ones first.  The National Institute on Aging (NIA) recommends questions such as, “Do you have a new symptom you want to ask the doctor about? Do you want to get a flu shot? Are you concerned about how a treatment is affecting your daily life?”  If you recently had lab or blood tests done, be sure to ask about the results.

As many older adults worry they will forget the answers to their questions or treatment information, it may be helpful to bring along another pair of ears.  If you are having trouble following instructions regarding your care plan, ask to have the instructions repeated.

If you suspect a medication you are taking is giving you problems, be sure to bring it up with your doctor.  If you are prescribed new medications, do not wait until your next appointment to let your healthcare provider know if you are experiencing side effects.

If you or a loved one is looking for one of the top Colorado Springs’ assisted living or memory care facilities, we invite you to take a look at MorningStar at Mountain Shadows.  We have 45 graciously appointed assisted living suites and 19 secure suites devoted to the individualized care of those with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia.

At MorningStar at Mountain Shadows, we represent the very best in senior living with a unique mission statement of “to honor, to serve, to invest.”  We have built a foundation on honoring God, valuing all seniors and selecting staff with a felt calling to serve to create a true “home” for our residents.  Please schedule a visit to one of the most trusted assisted living facilities in Colorado Springs.

Protect Your Eyes as You Age

March 21, 2019 by Quinn A in Senior Living

Eye problems are a common complaint among the elderly.  The American Optometric Association advises that older adults need to be aware of the warning signs of age-related eye health problems as they can cause loss of vision.  Also since some eye diseases have no early symptoms, they recommend annual eye examinations for everyone over age 60.  It is important to remember that while many eye conditions are easily treated, diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure can lead to serious eye problems.

One almost universal vision change experienced by older adults is Presbyopia, which is the gradual, age-related loss of the eyes' ability to focus clearly on nearby objects.   Typically the condition is not treated with any intervention other than a pair of reading glasses.

Floaters are another problem seniors experience and appear as tiny specks or spots that seem to float across your field of vision.  The Mayo Clinic says that most eye floaters are caused by “age-related changes that occur as the jelly-like substance (vitreous) inside your eyes becomes more liquid. Microscopic fibers within the vitreous tend to clump and can cast tiny shadows on your retina, which appear to you as floaters.”  It is important to have the condition checked by an eye doctor as it can also be a sign of more serious eye problems including retinal detachment.

Dry eyes are also common in seniors and can cause itching, burning and even loss of vision.  Treatment includes nutritional supplements, medications to reduce inflammation, or eye drops that simulate real tears.  On the other side some older adults can have too many tears that may result from temperature changes or sensitivity to light.  Taking precautions such as wearing sunglasses can help but you should be checked by your doctor as it could signal an infection or blocked tear duct.

In addition cataracts and glaucoma are frequent problems affecting older adults.  In the case of cataracts, once they begin to affect your eyesight they can usually be removed by surgery.  Glaucoma is not curable but it is treatable, and without treatment, it can eventually lead to permanent blindness.

Congestive Heart Failure

March 20, 2019 by Quinn A in Senior Living

While congestive heart failure can affect people of any age, 80 percent of the cases occur in elderly people and is the leading cause of hospitalization for people age 65 years and older. The Mayo Clinic defines congestive heart failure (or heart failure) as a disease that occurs when the heart muscle does not pump blood as well as it should, and it can be chronic or come on suddenly.  The disease can be caused by several conditions including coronary artery disease (the narrowing of arteries in the heart) or high blood pressure, which gradually damages and weakens the heart.  It can also cause the heart to become too stiff to fill and pump efficiently.

While doctors says not all conditions that lead to heart failure are reversible, there are many treatments and lifestyle changes that can improve the signs and symptoms of the disease.  Lifestyle changes include incorporating exercise into your routine as well as managing stress and reducing sodium in your diet.  Respiratory disease and obesity can also contribute to or exacerbate heart failure.

Common symptoms of congestive heart failure can include: shortness of breath (dyspnea) when you exert yourself or lie down; fatigue and weakness; swelling (edema) in your legs, ankles and feet; and a rapid or irregular heartbeat.  A person may also experience a persistent cough or wheezing with white or pink blood-tinged phlegm, and an increased need to urinate at night, a lack of appetite and nausea, among others.

As one of the top Colorado Springs’ assisted living facilities, MorningStar at Mountain Shadows offers 45 stylish, assisted living suites.   Each resident has access to 24-hour Care Managers; a CPR-trained team member on every shift, full-time Licensed Nurses, Certified Medication Care Managers and other wellness services.  Visit our website to learn more about our compassionate, professional care and ask about our special offer of up to “$20,000 Savings” over a 2-year stay (available for a limited time only).

More and more research seems to bear out that owning and caring for a pet can actually be good for seniors’ health and wellbeing.  One such study reported on by A Place for Mom’s website suggests that, “just 15 minutes bonding with an animal sets off a chemical chain reaction in the brain, lowering levels of the fight-or-flight hormone cortisol and increasing production of the feel-good hormone serotonin. The result: heart rate, blood pressure and stress levels immediately drop.”

Researchers found that interactions between pets and their owners can help to fight off depression and lower cholesterol levels.  There is even some evidence to suggest the relationship may help to protect against heart disease and stroke.  Scientists’ reason that pets may help the elderly to feel more connected to the here and now as the pet requires daily attention and care.  Furthermore, the animals themselves offer unconditional love, unending affection and emotional support.

Pet therapy programs are growing in popularity and used in settings such as hospitals, mental health centers, convalescent homes and child centers.  Studies show that many people who participate in pet therapy programs have an improvement in their appetite as well as improvement in their social interactions and cognitive skills.  In addition the acceptance and non-verbal communication of animals can be soothing for those with Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia.

The unique mission statement of MorningStar at Jordan Creek, “to honor, to serve, to invest,” sets us apart from other senior living communities.  Our foundation is built upon honoring God, valuing all seniors, and investing in staff with a felt calling to serve.  Dedicated to creating a real home for residents within a beautiful setting, we encourage you to learn more about the finest senior living Des Moines and the surrounding area offers.

Learn More about MorningStar of Wheat Ridge’s Memory Care

March 16, 2019 by Quinn A in Senior Living

MorningStar of Wheat Ridge’s philosophy and approach to memory care includes our guiding principle that: whatever the extent of the memory loss, whatever the form of dementia, a person’s essence remains. We feel it our calling as well as our privilege to find ways to connect with and nurture that essence.

Our individualized care starts by meeting with the senior and their family members to learn all we can about the person’s background including their vocation, talents and preferences. Taking this information, we put together a daily routine that will be used to stimulate or calm the resident in response to their mood or the surrounding circumstances. Throughout the senior’s stay with us, we also engage the family members as we know our services are as much for them as for the residing senior.

MorningStar’s memory care provides an atmosphere of safety and well-being, while at the same time, encourages and supports choice and independence whenever possible. Our residents participate in daily recreational and purposeful activities that include life skills, art, music, and exercise and are included in special events and scheduled outings.

The Reflections Neighborhood is designed to permit residents the freedom to move about in spacious surroundings and includes an enclosed patio and courtyard that is reserved just for their use. Our extensive services include around-the-clock care, daily health monitoring, a licensed nurse and a caring and devoted staff.

MorningStar is honored to partner with the Alzheimer’s Association in every market we serve. Our team members work to support their local chapter by donating their time, talent and treasure. In addition, we participate in their core initiatives such as Memories in the Making, The Longest Day and Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Please visit our website for contact information as well as to learn more about our assisted living and memory care community.
